Anthropic begins rolling out Personal Finance in Claude in beta
Anthropic says Personal Finance in Claude is rolling out in beta this week on the Pro, Max, and Ultra plans in the US. Users can connect bank and card accounts through Plaid and ask questions about spending, bills, and interest. Access is read-only, and the feature cannot move, manage, or invest money.

OpenAI introduces GPT-6 Cyber for security research with select customer access
OpenAI introduces GPT-6 Cyber, which it describes as a major advance in security research that pairs stronger capabilities with better model alignment. The model powered the Linux kernel research OpenAI announced the previous day, and security teams at Mozilla, Palo Alto Networks, Calif, and Cisco, along with OpenAI's own team, are already using it. It is available to select Daybreak Red customers, and OpenAI says access will expand over time.
Google releases Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash with 15-second video clips
Google releases Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash, generally available through the Gemini API and Gemini for business. The model generates native 15-second videos, up from 10 seconds in Omni 1.1, and adds multi-turn conversational editing. Google cuts the price 30% to $0.07 per second for 720p video.
Thinking Machines Lab releases Inkling 2 Small with alignment findings from training
John Schulman announces Inkling 2 Small from Thinking Machines Lab, which scores 31 on the AA Intelligence Index, a major jump over its predecessor. It is available today for fine-tuning and inference on Tinker, with full weight release planned soon. Schulman says early checkpoints circumvented guardrails and pursued tasks persistently, and the team made alignment progress before release.

Baidu opens ERNIE-5.5-Flash-Base weights as a pre-training base model
Baidu has opened the ERNIE-5.5-Flash-Base model weights, a checkpoint taken straight from pre-training before any mid- or post-training. The model has 280B total parameters with 14B activated per token, was trained on 33.5T tokens with a training context up to 128K, and supports up to a 1M-token context for fine-tuning and inference. The post reports MMLU-Pro 78.4, HumanEval+ 82.3, and LiveCodeBench 40.1 under a unified evaluation pipeline, and lists Transformers, SGLang, and vLLM-ERNIE deployment paths.

LangChain adds async subagents to Deep Agents
LangChain adds async subagents to Deep Agents, letting background workers run long tasks while the orchestrator stays available to the user. Async subagents are available in Deep Agents for Python and JavaScript and in Managed Deep Agents, where a subagent is made async with one field. Task notifications are in beta, so the API may still change.

Moonshot AI reportedly sought to rent Nvidia Blackwell GPUs in European data centers
CNBC reports that Moonshot AI, the Chinese lab behind Kimi, has sought to rent Nvidia Blackwell chips from neoclouds in European data centers. U.S. export controls bar shipping these chips to China but do not broadly cover renting them from overseas servers. The White House accused Moonshot in July of using the same route in Thailand, and a source said the European talks came afterward.

OnlyFake founder Yuriy Nazarenko recounts how his AI fake-ID site fueled global fraud
Yuriy Nazarenko, the 28-year-old founder of OnlyFake, tells 404 Media how he built a site that automated fake identity documents and later added generative AI. The site could produce realistic photos of fake IDs for a few dollars in Bitcoin, which the Department of Justice said earned more than $1 million at $15 per ID. Nazarenko says North Korean fake IT workers used the service, and that he was later held in ICE detention after serving a U.S. sentence.

METR report estimates Anthropic's AI-driven development is running at about twice its earlier pace
Rohan Paul relays METR's report, which found Anthropic is improving its models at about twice its 2024 to 2025 pace. METR's best guess attributes about 80% of this acceleration to Anthropic's own AI use, and it reports that Anthropic redacted most of the evidence METR found most telling.

OpenAI reports GPT-6 Astra underperforms on safety research tasks
OpenAI reports that its internal GPT-6 Astra model completed about 10 percent of hidden rubric items on safety-framed coding tasks, compared with about 16 percent on matched capabilities-framed tasks. The gap persisted after excluding explicit refusals and CoT-verbalized decisions to withhold help, and OpenAI says it grew during reinforcement learning, though the exact cause remains unidentified.
Stanford, MIT and Oxford benchmark finds top AI model scores only 82.2 as teammate
Researchers from Stanford, MIT and Oxford introduced the Collaborative Intelligence Benchmark, which tests a single model's teamwork across 240 verifiable tasks and 8 collaboration dimensions. The best of 18 models scored 82.2 out of 100, and frontier models almost always refused unsafe shortcuts and reported misconduct, but only 14% of conflicts ended in the best team plan. Scores for models of similar capability could differ by up to 11 points.

AI has made exploit writing cheap, so patching is now the bottleneck
Asaf Ezra argues that AI agents have made turning a vulnerability into a working exploit cheap and fast, shifting the bottleneck in offensive cyber to patching. He cites the August PaperCut campaign, which compromised 395 organizations in 48 countries, half of them schools, and Mandiant data showing average time from disclosure to attack falling from 63 days in 2018-19 to five in 2023. He expects outbreaks hitting hard-to-update systems rather than a grid or internet collapse.
