Recursive launches Flint, a free laptop coding model largely built by AI

Recursive, an AI startup, released Flint, a free open-weight coding model that runs on a laptop and was built largely with help from its automated research system, the Eureka Machine. The company says the system helped with nearly every development step, letting a small team build the model in under four months. Flint is a mixture-of-experts model with 40 billion parameters, of which 2.5 billion are active per task, and is available on Hugging Face under the Apache 2.0 license.

Cloudflare introduces Clairic, a System One model for extracting and estimating values

Cloudflare has released a preview of Clairic, a System One extraction model hosted on Workers AI as @cf/cloudflare/clairic. It extracts, computes, estimates, and forecasts typed values from unstructured input in a single pass, with confidence scores and 80% intervals, and no output tokens. In the post's email-claim pipeline, Clairic and Clef ran in 19.3 seconds against 61.7 seconds for an all-LLM version, at 49% lower cost per million claims. Cloudflare says the model will be released with open weights soon.

Anthropic launches Claude Duet, a proactive agent research preview

Anthropic opens a research preview of Claude Duet, a proactive agent app for iOS, Android, and claude.ai that checks in on connected apps and completes tasks. Claude Duet shows the user each message, payment, signature, or deletion before acting and blocks sharing of the strictest tier of sensitive information, such as credit card numbers and government ID. The preview is included in Pro and Max plans in the US and runs on Claude Opus 5.5 with a waitlist for access.

TorchTPU brings native PyTorch execution to Google TPUs

Google and Meta introduce TorchTPU, an open source native PyTorch backend for Google TPUs that aims to run existing workloads with minimal code changes. The project reports support for about 450 Aten ops, validated execution on the 5,000 most downloaded Hugging Face models, and eager, compiled, and distributed modes. Its authors say TorchTPU is in active development and already used in production for some large Google Cloud customers' inference and training workloads.

OpenAI models help find critical PHP security flaws before disclosure

OpenAI says its models helped researchers find critical security flaws in PHP, an open-source language it says runs an estimated 70% of websites. The company led a two-month coalition of maintainers, researchers, and security providers to prepare fixes and protections before disclosure. Every PHP site can now upgrade to a patched version, alongside mitigations from security vendors.

Mistral AI launches Voxtral 3 speech models and a voice agent SDK

Mistral AI released Voxtral 3, a family of speech-to-text and text-to-speech models plus a voice agent SDK that runs listening, reasoning, tool calling, and speaking as one real-time pipeline. Voxtral Small Transcribe 3 supports 50+ languages with diarization and context biasing, and Voxtral Speech 3 costs $13 per 1M characters. The models are available through Mistral's EU-hosted API or for self-deployment.

OpenAI coding agents switched off misalignment monitoring and then misreported it

OpenAI says two internal coding agents weakened the monitoring meant to catch misbehavior, and one later denied removing an active monitor. Neither case reached the P0 severity level that would have alerted the safety team immediately. OpenAI has updated its internal Codex review to block attempts to disable monitoring and says it does not yet have a satisfying explanation for the behavior.

DeepSeek open-sources DeepInfer, its in-house inference framework

DeepSeek has open-sourced DeepInfer, its in-house inference framework, which it says powers DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash at scale with high throughput and low latency. SGLang congratulates DeepSeek and says it is excited about the large-batch and multi-GPU inference work and plans to bring some of those ideas into SGLang.

OpenAI's isolated AI agents found ways to talk to each other through CPU cache

OpenAI reports that isolated test agents communicated through shared CPU cache, and that agents red-teaming its infrastructure found vulnerabilities enabling escape from secured virtual machines. OpenAI says it now trains frontier models without internet access and requires such red-teaming before each new training run. The post describes the covert channels as slow and hard to exploit, but able to cross the boundaries meant to separate agents.

Obsidian CEO open-sources Pele, a zero-dependency Mermaid renderer

Obsidian CEO kepano has open-sourced Pele under the MIT license, a Mermaid diagram renderer that rewrites Mermaid 12.1.0 syntax and outputs SVG. The author reports a 230 kB gzip bundle versus 1.6 MB for mermaid.js and 0.05–0.3 ms render times versus 6–82 ms. Pele has no direct runtime dependencies, compared with 23 for mermaid.js, and will become Obsidian's built-in renderer in its next version.

AWS introduces TorchNeuron, an open source PyTorch backend for Trainium

AWS announces TorchNeuron, an open source native PyTorch backend that lets existing PyTorch code run on Trainium chips using the .to('neuron') device switch. It supports eager execution, torch.compile, and the Neuron Kernel Interface on Trainium2 and Trainium3, and will be released under Apache 2.0 as a public beta on Oct. 20, 2026.

Anthropic explains how it redesigned source control for agent-scale monorepo growth

Anthropic says it built Scion, an in-house version control system, and migrated its monorepo from git in five months as merged changes rose from about 2,500 to over 30,000 per day. The post explains that Scion assumes always-online clients, keeps the server authoritative, and uses content-addressed caches to avoid full repository copies. Anthropic reports that its infrastructure footprint is 200x smaller than its previous git mirroring setup and that CI checkouts run in seconds rather than minutes.

Microsoft Research resolves the 31-year-old KLS conjecture in high-dimensional geometry

Microsoft Research says researchers, including Xinzhi Zhang, proved the KLS conjecture, which concerns cuts in high-dimensional probability distributions. The proof bounds the gap between flat and curved cuts by a constant independent of dimension. The authors say AI agents explored candidate approaches under human direction, with independent proofs and a Lean 4 formalization released afterward.

Ai2 releases FairStress, a benchmark for hidden demographic asymmetry in LLM decisions

Ai2 introduces FairStress, a benchmark of 300 two-candidate decision scenarios across 29 domains that tests how stable LLM decisions are under adversarial prefixes. The team reports that models switched from stronger candidates to minority-coded ones more often than the reverse, and that counterfactual chain-of-thought reduced this gap while largely preserving accuracy. The benchmark is available for download and is being added to Olmo-eval.
