Anthropic explains how it redesigned source control for agent-scale monorepo growth
Original titleRedesigning source control at Anthropic
Anthropic says it built Scion, an in-house version control system, and migrated its monorepo from git in five months as merged changes rose from about 2,500 to over 30,000 per day.
The post explains that Scion assumes always-online clients, keeps the server authoritative, and uses content-addressed caches to avoid full repository copies.
Anthropic reports that its infrastructure footprint is 200x smaller than its previous git mirroring setup and that CI checkouts run in seconds rather than minutes.
The post explains concrete design tradeoffs in Scion, showing how always-online clients and content-addressed caching differ from git's model at monorepo scale.
