Meta releases Muse Spark Open, an 816B-parameter open-weight coding model
Overview
Meta releases the weights for Muse Spark Open, an 816B-parameter mixture-of-experts model with 42B active parameters and a 1M-token context window, under the Muse Model License.
Meta says it is the most capable US open-weight model to date and is built for coding and agentic work. The weights are on Hugging Face, Amazon SageMaker AI, Google Cloud Model Garden and Microsoft Foundry, and hosted access is offered by providers including OpenRouter, Baseten, Together AI and Fireworks AI, with OpenRouter listing $1.25 per million input tokens and $4.25 per million output tokens.
The license is free to use but requires the label "Built with Muse Spark Open." Providers with more than $20 million in annual revenue that offer it as an API need a separate agreement with Meta, according to The Decoder. Meta and Apple say the model runs on two M5 Ultra Mac Studios using MLX, and CNBC reports a Mac Studio with the required M5 Ultra chip and 256GB of memory costs at least $10,799.
Meta says the model leads several benchmark categories against Qwen 3.8, GLM 5.3 and Kimi K3, but The Decoder reports it trails some competitors on coding. Nathan Lambert says adoption depends on whether the benchmark scores hold up. NVIDIA says its NVFP4 checkpoints deliver over 50K tokens/sec/GPU on Blackwell Ultra, a figure it has not independently verified.
