Retailers and banks block AI shopping agents, which often fail where access is allowed
Overview
Amazon has sued Perplexity and blocked Meta's Muse agent from its site, and JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon says the bank will not let outside agents access customer accounts.
The Verge found Muse was intermittently blocked by Target's bot check and was shown listings from a grocery chain that does not ship to the reporter's address.
The RealReal has also made it much harder for AI agents to log in, add items to cart, and check out. The company made the change after a Verge report that Muse repeatedly re-added listings to carts as their 20-minute holds expired, blocking other shoppers for hours. The RealReal says agents can still surface its listings and direct Muse users to product pages.
