Santiago tries Tonal's digital weights and likes its built-in modes

AISummary

Santiago, who has trained with traditional gym equipment since 2018, says he expected the Tonal digital strength machine to be gimmicky but found it useful.

He highlights spotter mode for training to failure alone, burnout mode that lowers the weight when he tires, and smartflex mode that adjusts the weight up or down based on effort.

He says he bought the machine himself after testing it at a friend's house and is not sponsored by Tonal.

Today, I did my first workout using Tonal.

I've been working out since 2018 with traditional gym equipment, and I honestly expected Tonal to be gimmicky.

It is not. I actually liked it a lot.

Here is the thing: although digital resistance feels weird compared to the real thing, Tonal's built-in intelligence makes up for it in spades:

• You get spotter mode, so you can push to failure when working alone, like I always do.

• You get burnout mode, so the machine adjusts the weight down when you are gassed, so you can keep repping out.

• You get smartflex mode, so the machine auto-adjusts the weight (up or down) based on how easy/hard it is for me.

There are a few more modes, but I haven't tested them yet.

Let's see how it feels over the next few weeks, but so far, I'm really happy with this thing.

I'm not sponsored by Tonal in any way. I bought mine after testing it at my friend's house. It's freacking expensive, but I'm sure I'll make good use of it.
