Douyin's Douyin Shengsheng app hit 22 million daily users before cooling after subsidy cuts

Douyin's local services unit launched the standalone Douyin Shengsheng app on February 10, 2026, and its daily active users rose from 4 million in March to 20 million in June, reaching 22.6 million in July.

From July, Douyin raised commission rates in categories such as buffets, hotpot and bakery, and cut subsidies to 3% to 4% on a random basis.

The unit has also shifted its September targets toward profit and set advertising at 80% of the performance review for some retail categories.
