How ChatGPT targets ads using your prompts, phone number, and email

OpenAI lets advertisers target specific ChatGPT users with ads based on uploaded email addresses, phone numbers, or Android advertising IDs, according to 404 Media's tests.

Ads can also be matched to users' prompts through "context hints," and audiences must exceed 25,000 matched entries to be targeted rather than excluded. An OpenAI spokesperson says uploaded files are deleted after processing, usually within 24 hours.
