The thing is that nothing about Math as a hobby has to change. Other hobbies are not about being "first", they are about the intrinsic joy of the work (music, baking, etc.)
The fact that machines bake does not destroy baking as a hobby!
NVIDIA's Bryan Catanzaro argues that math as a hobby does not have to change, because hobbies like music and baking are valued for the joy of the work rather than for being first. He compares it to machines baking bread, which does not destroy baking as a hobby. He replies to a post by @EigenGender, who sympathizes with mathematicians whose publicly funded hobby is now less fun.

I am sympathetic to the mathematicians, who had a really great publicly funded hobby which is now less fun. But at some point we should talk about why they had a publicly funded hobbyView quoted post on X
