Locked chats move to a separate section with its own memory, and resetting the PIN permanently deletes them. The company says locking does not add end-to-end encryption, change retention, or alter the "Improve the model for everyone" setting, and the feature starts rolling out Tuesday across Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans, but not ChatGPT for Healthcare.
