GitHub Copilot adds image generation and editing in chat
Overview
GitHub Copilot now generates and edits images from natural language prompts in its chat, according to a GitHub Copilot changelog post dated October 28, 2026.
A reasoning model calls a dedicated image tool powered by GPT Image 2.5 Flare, and results preview inline and save to the workspace.
The feature is in public preview for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise. GitHub says image generation is billed separately from the chat model, based on image tokens that count toward the plan's AI credits. Organization and enterprise owners can turn it off by disabling the image generation model in Copilot model policies. The changelog says watermarking is off by default.
