Google adds native PyTorch vLLM and SGLang backends for TPU, with vLLM TorchTPU release
Overview
Google announces native PyTorch backends for the vLLM and SGLang inference engines on TPU, built on TorchTPU and developed with Inferact and RadixArk.
Google says the engines add prefix caching, KV cache offloading and disaggregated serving, with KV cache transfers handled by the open-source TPU Sync library, and that both already run at scale in production with preview customers.
vLLM separately releases vllm-torchtpu, a platform plugin that runs vLLM on Google Cloud TPUs without model code changes. It requires Python 3.12 on a Cloud TPU VM and installs a matching vLLM, torch, torch_tpu and libtpu. vLLM says TPU v7x (Ironwood) is the recommended hardware and is tested in CI on every pull request, while v6e, v5e and v5p are experimental.

AIvLLM releases vllm-torchtpu, an out-of-tree platform plugin that runs vLLM on Google Cloud TPUs, so most models that already run in vLLM can be served on TPU without model code changes. The plugin keeps vLLM's CLI, OpenAI-compatible server, scheduler, and KV cache manager unchanged, and adds Pallas kernels for attention, Mixture-of-Experts, and quantized matmul.
