TIME names Meta Omnilingual ASR a Best Invention of 2026

TIME has named Meta Omnilingual Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) one of its Best Inventions of 2026, Meta's AI research account says in a post on X. The suite of models provides speech recognition for more than 1,600 languages, including 500 low-coverage languages that Meta says no ASR system had served before.

The announcement comes from Meta's own account. The TIME listing itself was not among the reports reviewed.
