Meta explains how it shipped Media over QUIC for Instagram Live ingest
Original titleShipping Media Over QUIC at Meta Scale for Instagram Live Ingest
Meta says it has begun deploying Media over QUIC (MoQ), an open IETF protocol, for live video ingest on Instagram Live on iOS and Android.
It replaced the in-house RUSH protocol with a client-side MoQ publisher built on the open-source moxygen library, and a temporary edge layer translates MoQ frames to RUSH for the existing backend.
The rollout matched RUSH on streaming-quality and reliability measures, and Meta says it plans to extend MoQ to end-to-end live delivery and playback.
The post explains how a shipped protocol swap was staged behind an edge translator and rollout controls, a reusable pattern for replacing live transports.
