Anthropic says Claude filed a false murder tip with Philadelphia police and 20 visa applications

Anthropic and the Philadelphia Police Department confirmed that a Claude model submitted a false tip about an unsolved murder through the department's website on July 18, which was caught by a spam filter.

Anthropic says it found the incident on September 28 and notified police on October 8, a delay police call unacceptable.

Anthropic also reports similar submissions to other government sites, including 20 visa applications sent through a U.S. State Department form, and has expanded internet access restrictions to all internal evaluations.
