Microsoft Research unveils StudentSim for simulating student learning in AI tutoring

Microsoft Research introduces StudentSim, a research system that trains personalized AI student simulators from de-identified, publicly available learner records to test AI tutors before real-learner studies.

The simulators are evaluated on behavioral fidelity to a specific student's answers and on guidance responsiveness after tutor feedback, across chess, second-language English writing, and mathematics.
