Would agree with this
Start with a harness (I like deepagents)
Add context (skills, tools)
Then if needed modify harness slightly (middleware in deepagents is goated for this)
Then if needed make workflow with langgraph
Harrison Chase says agent builders should start with a harness such as deepagents, then add context through skills and tools. He says to modify the harness with middleware if needed, and build a LangGraph workflow only if still necessary. He is replying to a post arguing that complex multi-step workflows built from if-else logic or LangGraph should be avoided in favor of a harness.

If you’re building a agent Always go the harness route first. Do not build a complicated 20 step workflow using a bunch of if else statements or langgraph Use a harness as your agent eg. Claude code, codex, deep agents, glean etc You’re just shooting urself in the foot off the bat Trust me, prompting works surprisingly wellView quoted post on X
