Microsoft unveils Maia 300 and Cobalt 200 AI chips alongside open infrastructure efforts
Original titleInfrastructure for the frontier era: Scaling intelligence through open industry collaboration
Microsoft announces Azure Maia 300, its next-generation AI accelerator, which it says delivers 40% more tokens per watt than leading GPU-based systems.
It also introduces Cobalt 200, an agent-native CPU that cuts agent call latency by 33% and raises agentic workload throughput by 23% over Cobalt 100.
The post also describes open-industry work through the Open Compute Project, including the Multipath Reliable Connection networking protocol and the Tessera Integrated HSM open-source hardware security module.
The post gives concrete efficiency figures for Maia 300 and Cobalt 200, plus the open-standard networking and power work behind them, useful for judging Azure's infrastructure direction.
