Airtable layoffs signal Bending Spoons' small-team model at work

AISummary

Gergely Orosz says Airtable is about 930 people, while Bending Spoons runs roughly 20 products, including Evernote, Meetup, Vimeo, Eventbrite, and WeTransfer, with fewer than 900 staff as far as he knows.

He says the company's model is to run products with much smaller teams than before.

Airtable's own announcement, which Federico Simioni shares, says it is laying off a large part of its team and plans a new Core team, Performance and Infra teams, and upgrades to Omni, Canvas, and MCP.

@GergelyOrosz

Consider for a moment how Airtable is (was?) ~930 people. Bending Spoons, operating ~20 products (incl Evernote, Meetup, Vimeo, Eventbrite, WeTransfer etc) is smaller than 900 AFAIK (!!)

Their business model is to run products with very very small teams vs before.

Today we’re laying off a large part of the Airtable team. This is not a reflection of their work but a reflection of our deep belief that small teams ship more and better. For Airtable, better is about to look like: - A new Core team shipping your top requests monthly (already 30+ shipped in 3 weeks) - Upgraded Omni, Airtable Canvas, a stronger MCP, and BYO agents, coming soon - New Performance and Infra teams focusing on speeding up bases and increasing limits on records, fields, and syncs To everyone leaving: thank you. If you’re hiring, these are excellent people and worth a call.
