LangChain's Harrison Chase joined Harry Stebbings on the 20VC podcast to discuss how better models change what developers build and where value sits in the agent stack. The post links to the full episode on YouTube, and an excerpt from the discussion says LangChain spends about 30% of engineering salary on coding tools, a share that fell over the last two months while token usage rose.

What percent of developer salary do you spend on coding tools and how has it changed? “We spend probably roughly 30% of our engineering salary on coding tools. It has actually gone down the last two months, while the number of tokens that we have used has gone up. First is visibility, second is basic cost controls, and third is we control the harness. In that harness, we have done a bunch of work to control costs, things like prompt caching and routing.” @hwchase17 Love to hear your thoughts @bcherny @amasad @HamelHusain @simonw
