New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani says the federal government has abdicated on AI regulation and urges New Yorkers to resist the idea that the technology cannot be controlled.

He cites his ban on AI use in elementary and middle schools and a policy requiring disclosure of AI-made property listing photos and videos.

Speaking at the People's AI Assembly hosted by the AI Now Institute, he criticized the "complete abdication of federal law" on AI.
