Amex unveils Intent Intelligence Framework to verify AI agent purchases before checkout

American Express introduces the Intent Intelligence Framework, which captures and authenticates a customer's purchase instructions before an AI agent completes a transaction.

The framework starts with a Create Intent API that records the merchant, maximum budget and product preferences, then issues an Intent ID and a Proof of Intent Token that replaces the card number at checkout.

Amex, which says it has not yet seen an increase in agentic commerce disputes, plans to build it into its ACE Developer Toolkit.
