Google says Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite can replace Gemini 2.5 models

AIGoogle says Gemini 2.5 users should move to 3.8 Flash and Flash-Lite, which it expects to match or beat 2.5 on capabilities, latency, and price. The Gemini API auto-redirects Gemini 2.5 Pro to 3.8 Flash and Gemini 2.5 Flash to 3.5 Flash-Lite on Dec 1.

🗣️ PSA, if you're still using the Gemini 2.5 series models!

Based on our evals, we're pretty confident that Flash-Lite and 3.8 Flash should have similar (or even stronger!)!capabilities, latencies, and pricepoints, but please let us know if you don't find that to be the case.
