Rohan Paul says a former OpenAI and Anthropic researcher's claim that China has spies inside both labs looks correct after a recent FBI arrest. The FBI arrested a former OpenAI employee over a sophisticated listening device found hidden in one of the company's offices. OpenAI says it has no indication so far that the employee accessed model weights, source code, or customer data.
So looks like Jacob Coxon (the ex OpenAI and Anthropic researcher) was not that wrong after all when he said the below last week.
"China already has spies at OpenAI at Anthropic. China has the ability to hack at any time. If we pull ahead that doesn't give us a big lead, they can just step in and steal our progress at any time."
